Hello, my name is Finlay Smyth, I am an Electrical/Mechanical engineer and design student at the university of Strathclyde. I have been thinking seriously about making my own 16mm film cinema camera since I have access to the software, machinery and materials. I was wondering if anyone would know of any in depth/substantial resources (be it book or webpage) to describe in detail, the inner workings of one of these cameras?

Many thanks, Finlay Smyth

Dear Finlay,

as far as our cameras are concerned there's a lot of interest and knowledge around e.g. the ARRIFLEX 35 series among camera rentals, collectors and "folks of the less digital age".

Out of the top of my head, I'd advise pay the camera rentals next to you a visit and explain your idea - I doubt you will find closed doors and for sure a lot of information that will help.

This: http://cinematechnic.com/ is also a good resource for some reading on our older retired cameras.

Best,
Jan
