Benefits of shooting with an Arri Over A7R

Tue Jan 10, 2017 3:13 am

Obviously the Arri Alexa or pretty much any other camera has a huge advantage over the Sony A7R but I wonder how significantly the dynamic range would increase. I just worked on a project and I was noticing some windows being completely blurred out. Would an Alexa be capable of handling this situation?

Fast forward to about 40 seconds.

I am 17 years old at the moment and I would appreciate some help from some real industry professionals. Thank you very much and and an successful 2017 to all of you.

Hey Jacob-Lucas,

it is hard to tell without knowing the actual setup and changes made in color grading (bluish tint?).
I guess you are referring to this window:

Since you've set the movie in general at a low light level you gain a lot of texture of the outside (red arrow). I assume the window's frame was hit by direct sunlight (blue circle). Hard to judge... but I am confident to say that ALEXA would have handled this situation equally good if not better :)

Did you shoot SLog?
