I'm also really interested in this question.
I've used a few workarounds such as physically stopping the motor as it reaches the point where it should stop during the calibration and also using the limit function but surely there would be a better way.
Also when using a UMC-4 with RED Epic the cable connects to the Sync and control ports (I think for recording of metadata). Surely the UMC can read the distance information from the EF mount that connects with the brain on the RED?
