Amira 4:3

Any plans to release a 4:3 and anamorphic de-squeeze option for the Amira?
I love working with the Amira, but always have to get a Mini or XT for anamorphic jobs. I would much rather keep using the Amira for those. It's frustrating to know the sensor is actually capable, but it's just not "activated".
I think many customers would gladly pay for that option!

Hi Martim,
sorry, we have no plans for 4:3 mode with AMIRA, this is not only by product lineup but also by the sensor itself. Even though it is a 4:3 sensor in principle, the sensors used by AMIRA are not qualified for 4:3 mode.

Thank you Markus.
What about just an anamorphic de-squeeze, like the Alexa EV had on the 16:9 sensor?

Hey Martim,

since it was ARRI's thing to have a 4:3 sensor for anamorphic acquisition and there's no 4:3 mode available in AMIRA - I guess we will not offer a anamorphic de-squeeze.

Best,
Jan

If I get it right Alexa Mini has the same sesor as the Amira, so why is de-squeze not possible? Being able to use anamorphic lenses would make Amira my favourite camera ever :)

Hey Mateusz,

you know this is like the car business, some cars come with more features some with less: You might have the same engine inside, but still the van does not come with leather seats since it has an other target market than the town car.
Same with cameras or potato chips.

Kind regards,
Jan

So you are saying it is possible, just not on your roadmap?
All best

Yes, 4:3 modes are not planned for AMIRA.

Hi Mateusz,
the sensor for the ALEXA Mini and the AMIRA is the same, but the sensor in the AMIRA is not qualified for the 4:3 pixel range, it is only tested and selected for 16x9.
