Calibration and menu adjustments while recording

Hi friends at Arri - I recently was trying to calibrate a lens motor by way of the CForce Mini motor button after a lens change (while still actively recording as we needed a continuous audio capture) but the Alexa 35 didn’t allow for that lens calibration while recording was still active.

I wonder if we could have a firmware update which would provide substantially more access to almost all the menu settings while actively recording, including lens calibration?

I understand some users might be concerned about inadvertently hitting a menu button while shooting and having it ruin a take, but I would imagine if you needed the camera to stay locked down you could still engage lock functionality via the lock button?

That would seem like the best of both worlds, to have access to the full camera menu and adjustments if you need it but also protection against it if you don’t need to adjust any variables?

For all of us documentary DPs and indie film DPs the more adjustability and menu access we can have while actively recording the better - it’s incredibly helpful to deal with rapidly changing variables which are out of our control and to allow for more continuous filming. Thanks!

Dear JHutch,

calibration of lens motors is not possible while recording because, as you mention, it is a potential risk. However I do understand your request and will forward it internally.

Thanks for your feedback!

Great - thanks Andreas. It would be incredibly helpful if there's a way to figure out how to give that calibration while recording option - many thanks!
