Sound through SDI?

No idea why I can't find anything on this here aside from this back in 2015. - viewtopic.php?p=183&hilit=monitor+sound+ntg+2#p183

Funny, someone claims they did it halfway down the chat when just days earlier an engineer said it hasn't been implemented yet.

I'm trying to monitor sound through my SmallHD going through the Wooden Camera D-Box and all I'm getting is a high-pitch squeal. I've tried multiple project frame rates. Was sending sound through SDI never implemented? I've never had to do this before.

Also, is there a reason a self-powered shotgun like a Rode NTG-2 would not work considering the Mini doesn't have phantom power? I'm running it through the Wooden Camera A-Box and my levels are as if it's not getting power. I tested the mic on my Sonys and it's working fine. Even when I bump my Arri's levels to +30 (max) they seem low. Can't hear anything over the squeal though!

Dear rashomon,

all our cameras feature SDI embedded audio nowadays. I am not familiar with the Wooden Camera D-Box, so what happens when you connect your SmallHD directly to the camera's SDI output?

Of course make sure audio recording is enabled in the camera and send a reference tone from the camera to check.

Such a microphone, if I am not completely wrong, only outputs microphone level audio. Our cameras require line level, so you would some kind of microphone pre-amp between mic and camera.

Best regards.
