3.2K ArriRaw mode?

Are there any plans for a 3.2K 16:9 ArriRaw mode in the Alexa Mini to match the one available in the SXT?

This would provide a format that can be upscaled to UHD (2.8K is not really good enough for this), but with a lower data rate (and maybe higher fps) than the current Open Gate 3.4K format.

On the subject of 3.2K, can I ask why the photosite raster chosen on the SXT is 3168x1782? Wouldn't 3200x1800 create an easier upscale to 3840x2160 (i.e. 1.2x)?

Dear Richard,

3200x1800 ARRIRAW, is a format that would have to be implemented like "4:3 2.8K (OG 3.4K)": as an open gate format with smaller active image area; so higher frame rates would not be possible. Not really any benefits...

The decision was 120fps vs. even pixel count; 120fps won.

I understand. Thanks Jan.

The benefit of 3.2K Arriraw would be in smaller file sizes thus longer recording times, less post processing because the frame is already the correct aspect ratio, and better monitoring as there is no need to display the full open gate with a smaller mask frameguide.
