Hi there,
I am preparing for a feature renting an Alexa Mini LF, and using the ZF.2 version of the Zeiss Otus 28 / 55 / 85. I already own the 55 and 85, but still have to purchase the 28. I have asked ARRI if these lenses would fit the sensor, but the image circle might be just a bit too small. They have suggested renting the 28 first, but that seems to be a bit difficult. I was wondering if anyone from the forum has experience with these Otus lenses combined with the Alexa Mini LF camera, and if the lenses cover the sensor enough. Much appreciated!
All the best,
Martijn Rijnberg

Dear Martijn,
as per Zeiss Specs it will not cover the FULL sensor of Mini LF, but that might mean that it covers even more, but you might have to deal with vignetting. Also: will you record Open Gate? If not: all other modes seem to be doable!
Zeiss lists a diameter of image field for the 28mm of 43 mm (1.69").
On Mini LF we have a sensor diameter of:
OG: 44,71mm
LF 2.39:1 : 39,76mm
LF 16:9: 36,35mm
So you're covered for 2.39:1 or 16:9.
Kind regards,
Jan

Dear Jan,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Much appreciated for helping out.
I think I will aim at 2.39:1 and test if OG will work for the right crop (or else shoot 2.39:1). Great to hear this will work fine!
If anybody has used the Otus lenses from experience, please let me know.
All the best,
Martijn

Hey Martijn,
I have attached a screengrab with the Otus 28mm on the ALEXA Mini LF with the EF-Lbus Mount. It was taking with open iris at close focus in OG mode. I'd say you are definitely good both in OG and 2.39.
Cheers,
Georg
