Feature request: full height anamorphic

Hi,

I have a feature request, not sure if it's possible though; but now when I shoot 2x anamorphic, I shoot 3:2 Open Gate, and then I crop the sides to get to a 2.39:1 deliverable. It would be extremely lovely if I could shoot 6:5 or similar while still using the full height of the sensor, unlike the 3.3k height now.

Hi,

you mean a 6:5 sensor mode with 3164 image height? instead of 3.3.K 6:5 with 2774 image height.
I assume that the only reason would be the 390 / 2 = 195 top/bottom pixels and therefore it does not justify the effort, but I will pass this forward to Product Management.

Exactly. It honestly is a big difference visually because the look changes since you can use more of the outer regions of the anamorphic lenses, giving you more extreme characteristics that in some cases are the right approach to a project.

Other than the point you are making about extra top / bottom pixels, what is the advantage of shooting open gate vs 3.3k 6:5? Curious - just received our ALEXA 35 and learning about the sensor and shooting modes we'll want to use. Are you getting a higher quality image off the open gate mode?
