I’m sure the team at Arri have already received many requests to implement the new “EL Zone System” into the Mini LF and Alexa 35. And it’s a feature I’m sure most people would love to have in the camera (as the current Zebras and False Colour monitoring are really quite limited as far as setting precise exposures go (unless you have a clear reference for lighter skin tones or middle-grey within your frame).

I’ve no idea how complex implementing that in software would be, but I’d love to suggest a simple alternative, that would surely be easier to implement.

There are now several great tools out there online, that allow people to create their own customised False Colour LUTs, that allow you to turn your camera’s log exposure into a False Colour image (based on IRE values) for really precise exposure monitoring (you can have up to a 20-step range of colours to really precisely see where your shadows and highlights are falling).

colorizer.net has a great one: https://colorizer.net/index.php?op=fals ... reset=arri

All we’d need to make this terrific exposure tool easily accessible on the cameras, is the ability to assign custom buttons to cycle between the different LUTs installed on the camera:

- LUT up

- LUT down

We could then instantly activate and de-activate a much more precise exposure monitoring tool on the MVF-2 without having to deal with the added weight of an external monitor.

I think (in an ideal world) this feature would cycle seamlessly through the stored LUTs on the camera, so that if you stored three LUTs on the camera (two show-LUTs, and your False Colour LUT) if you pressed your custom “LUT up” button three times, it would cycle back to the first LUT you have installed (this would allow you to just use a single assignable button to handle this task - without having to use two just to navigate up and down through a few options).

Anyway, throwing it out there as a request for the next SUP. It would really be lovely to have this option.
