False color / EL Zone

Hi there -

Can we get a more robust implementation of False Color for the Alexa 35? Would love to see a scale with substantially more information than the current Arri False Color has, which is too limited in the exposure information it provides. Something along the lines of Ed Lachman’s EL Zone would be incredible to have with all the additional stop info it allows the user to track.

I'll second this request. I'd love to see at least one additional color assigned, like maybe black, to show definitively when we hit 'clip',

Dear R&G,

for ALEXAs with ALEV3 as well as ALEV4, you have a color for clipping: "when you see a red light, run"
Red is and hasbeen our clipping point. if you haven't seen it on ALEXA 35, you've not got the image to clip

Red for clipping is great, but there are so many other stops along the way - it would be incredibly helpful to have more exposure info in between those large gaps in the ARRI false color scale colors. For instance, trying to recreate a shot several days later with the current and truncated Arri scale would be substantially easier to dial in precisely if more intermediate exposure stops were added and assigned additional colors beyond the current Arri scale.

Hey Jan. Thank you for taking time to reply. My understanding is, according to the false color guide with the 35, red is now1/3rd stop below clip, instead of clipping. Did I misinterpret the intentions of the new guide and I should treat red as clipping on the 35, just as I do on my Amira?

if you are taking a pragmatic approach to your work - work as you are used to. The False Color on LogC4 adapts accordingly.
