I'm currently working on a tv series as a DIT and we are having problems with hot/dead pixels. We are using 4 different MINIs and already have switched out three of them because of this very issue. It also seem to become worse for each day, as while we are masking them out in ARRIConverter, more of them seem to appear - at least more than what is visible from just viewing in resolve at a 100% scale. When zooming in and watching frame by frame - https://streamable.com/ac9fyf - it becomes apparent that multiple pixels are flickering each frame. Watch closely on the actress face as well as the dress.
We are working with 2 simultaneous teams, where one is working in a studio and the other outside for exterior scenes. My initial thought is that something in the studio might mess with the equipment in some strange way. However, we are working in the same studio as last year when we did not have the same amount of pixel problems. Some, sure, but nothing that stands out from other productions.
My question for my issue are as following:
What exactly are these pixels? Some but very few have been static over several clips and seem to be a very clear example of a dead pixel, whilst some just keeps flickering in and out.
What might make these pixels occur? As I've made some research it has come to my understanding that dead pixels are by no means unusual, however, judging by the amount of them as well as the increase of them it seems that something else might be a triggering factor.
I'm very thankful for any feedback as it's starting to become a critical issue for the production.
